Boca Ciega Bay is a one of a kind aquatic preserve encompassing over 350,000 acres running on the west coast of the Pinellas County peninsula. The Florida state managed area was designated as an aquatic preserve in 1968 to aid in halting the wholesale dredging and filling of the bay that occurred with the finger fill developments of the 1950s. The longevity of Boca Ciega Bay's aquatic preserve status, and restoration work of groups like Tampa Bay Watch, ensure that Boca Ciega Bay remains a thriving location with a wide variety of wildlife and habitats. Sandy beaches, mangrove islands, sea grass beds, and spring-fed caves are just some of the spectacles you will see when kayaking in Boca Ciega Bay.
