It is that time of year again! Get out your pen and paper; it is time to create a New Year’s resolution. New Year’s Resolutions act as a reminder of what we hope for from the year to come. For outdoor adventure enthusiasts, you probably have high hopes of getting outside as much as possible in 2020. Here is the perfect adventure new year resolutions list for all outdoor junkies.

Get outside thirty minutes a day

Don't wait until temperatures start to warm up to get outside. Whether it is a walk in a park, bike ride to work, or skiing down a slope in the Alps, make 2020 the year you spend a little time in the sun each day. Seasonal depression can occur when someone doesn't get enough sunlight during the bleaker winter months. This year, put on your parka and participate in outdoor activities year-round.

Go rock climbing outdoors

If you haven’t tried rock climbing, this is the year to do it.  Rock climbing has become an increasingly popular outdoor adventure sport over the last few years. Much of this growth is due to the improvement of climbing gear and safety equipment, making climbing safer than ever.

Go on a pack and paddle trip

Paddle your way into the new year by renting a couple of kayaks and enjoying some time outside. On a pack and paddle adventure, you bring everything you need with you while taking rests to sleep in the great outdoors.

Run an adventure race

Whether it is a 5k or Spartan Race, pick something to push your body to the max while enjoying the outdoors. Running races are exhilarating and fun. Check out your local listing for upcoming races and events in your area. If you are feeling extra bold, sign up for a race in another state or country and get the chance to explore a new location.

Get WFA (Wilderness First Aid) or WFR (Wilderness First Responder) certified

Knowing how to react in a crisis is critical for surviving in the backcountry. Make 2020 the year you finally get your WFA or WFR certification and ensure you are always prepared in the wilderness. The Wilderness First Aid (WFA) will give you knowledge about how to react to injuries or crises while in the backcountry. The Wilderness First Responder (WFR) is a step up from the WFA certification, offering medical training for outdoor educators, guides, and recreationalists. Both certifications will provide you with the knowledge of what to do in an emergency situation while outdoors.

Log all your hiking miles

Keep a logbook of all the miles you hike. You don’t have to hike fifty miles all at once, but with each hike your miles will start to add up. Keeping a logbook will help you keep track of where your abilities are and how much you have accomplished.

Practice money-saving habits

Money is vital for funding your adventures. There are some basic things you can do to pinch pennies while saving up for your next adventure. Try cooking at home instead of eating out, living in a smaller apartment, or brewing coffee at home instead of through the drive-through at Starbucks.

Become an outdoor photographer

Document your outdoor adventures by photographing them.  Now is the time to learn photography. With so much information available online, you don’t even need to take a course to understand the basics. Additionally, DSLR cameras are more inexpensive than ever and can easily be taken along an adventure.

Invest in adventure gear

Some activities require you to bring your own equipment. Maybe this is the year you finally purchase a mountain bike.  However, be cautious before you make an impulsive purchase. You don’t want a brand new mountain bike collecting dust in your garage.

With all of these ideas, we are sure you will get outside and explore. Let 2020 be the year you finally complete your adventure new year resolutions.
